Sent to me by my bff this morning – thanks Al. Mr. Ikeda says it so simply and so perfectly.

People of conviction, who stand alone, who pursue their chosen path–not only are such people good and trustworthy friends themselves, but they can make genuine friends of others. The bamboo groves of autumn are gorgeous. Each bamboo tree stands independently, growing straight and tall toward the sky. Yet in the ground, out of sight, their roots are interconnected. In the same way, true friendship is not a relationship of dependence, but of independence. It is the enduring bond that connects self-reliant individuals, comrades who share the same commitment, on a spiritual dimension.”
Can I get an Amen?
P.S. I am participating in the Ultimate Blog Challenge this month – 31 days of July, a blog a day if I can.

Amen!
Cindy
Love the imagery and the thoughts this moves me to for my own blog. It also describes the social media world – all isolated but all interconnected.
Yes, you’re so right Roberta, great comment.
Great analogy – Amen! Glad to have found you on the UBC!!!
Thanks Tor, likewise 🙂
Loved this quote, Gillian. How true it is – we’re independent but interdependent..
Amen? Um, not from this Pagan. I’m all for connectedness and spirituality, though. I just don’t use Judeo-Christian or Abrahamic religion words to describe it.
Thanks for the comment Ame, been seeing you at UBC 🙂
Definitelyl. Amen.
Love that, Corrine. I believe Thich Nhat Hanh (the Buddhist monk) may have been the first person to really start using the term interdependence. At any rate, one of his 140+ books is on that topic. I own it, love it. 🙂
